OUR CONSTITUTION.

to raise awareness and minimize the risk for falls in the community through education and risk reduction programs
               OUR HISTORY.

The Ridge Meadows Fall Prevention Society, formerly known as the Ridge Meadows Fall Prevention Committee has been operating since April 2001.
We partnered with the Burnaby Coalition to prevent falls and adapted Their First Step fall prevention starts with you booklet to facilitate Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. The project goal was to deliver a community-based multi-faceted risk reduction program to reduce falls and fall related injuries among seniors, veterans and caregivers in Ridge Meadows. Volunteers delivered  the fall prevention initiative program to seniors throughout the community.
We focused on the Katzie First Nation and Pioneer Village. We were able to raise awareness throughout out the community by addressing both municipal councils, home show, senior fair, health and wellness clinic.
We also introduced the Vial of Life, now the Emergency Vial.
The Fire Department, BC Ambulance Services and the Royal Canadian Legion backed this project. In 2007 we introduced the Mobile Clinics to both communities.
2010 we partnered with Fraser Health to launch the book

SAFETY SUPERHEROES
  Preventing Grandparents from  falling

The "Safety Superheroes: Preventing parents from falling" book is an inter-generational approach to fall prevention and home safety.
Each year, thausands of seniors are taken to hospitals because of injuries sustained during a simple fall. The majority of these falls happen in their own home.
The "doll house" containing all kinds of hazards build by seniors of the Ridge Meadows Fall Prevention Society is alls available for kids to play with. While playing, kids will be able to uncover and remove hazards to make the "doll house"safer.
